After touring the US in 1991, only to find Americans enthralled by grunge, the homesick shoegazers decided to reinvent themselves and create the perfect British pop record. While less successful than its follow-up, 'Parklife,' 'Modern Life' is credited with being the first Britpop record, opening doors for groups like Blur's archrivals, Oasis. The album title derived from a piece of stenciled graffiti in London.
