Word of Malkmus fraternizing with the crew from Baltimore's Charm City Cakes leaked via the Chicago Reader diary of Windy City musician and engineer, Jeremy Lemos, who accompanied Pavement on their tour. As Pitchfork points out, there's photographic evidence of the Stockton, Calif.-bred group chilling with Charm City's Duff Goldman and crew.
It seems that the 'Ace of Cakes' contingent showed up for one of the group's Central Park gigs last summer to present them with a Pavement-themed cake. Although there's no word on what type of creation Goldman made on behalf of Pavement, it sure would be cool to see an edible rendering of the "fruit-covered nails" first mentioned in Pavement's 1991 classic 'Trigger Cut' atop their special cake.
