The legendary folk singer took a 20-foot tumble last week while climbing down from her treehouse in northern California but luckily sustained only minor injuries. She's now recovering and "resting comfortably," her production manager told the San Jose Mercury News.
Baez's treehouse, nothing more than a wooden platform perched in a 200-year-old oak tree behind her home, has become somewhat famous over the years. She had it built without walls so she could sit and watch birds and stars. She reportedly meditates and sleeps in it whenever the California weather allows and frequently talks about her love for it in press interviews and from the stage.
"You know those relaxation tapes that say, go to someplace where you're really happy? For me, it's out there in my tree house with a handful of bird seed and a chickadee on my hand," she told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in 2002.

Hi Joannie,
I miss not hearing and seeing you in the Washington DC area. When are you coming again?
My stepfathers cousin Milan Melvin was briefly married to her sister Mimi. Milan gave me my first guitar when i was in fifth grade when he came to visit us in Hawaii, a 1951 0017 Martin.( have always admired Joan and her music and have been in the music scene ever since(,not that i made any great waves) but the admiration of times and music will be in my heart forever. Godspeed to Joan and get well soon - Ben

We better should all climb on tree houses :) only the one that climbs high can fall down - she was always a great person and I hope to see her soon back in the tree house

The "justice" she always annoyed us with in her preachy but generally unwanted songs.
Maybe she was injured by Mother Nature on the run in this new century?
Out of, let's say 150 recordings, (As a guess), she had about 5 good ones. I expect and hope to never hear her voice again. Miss Holier Than Thou is a fake. (Naturally).
Not only a top tier talent, but she has a distinctive voice no one else sounds like. I think her tree house is intriguing, although I had never heard of it before. With no walls, I guess one would be subject to slipping and falling. The report could have been so much worse. I am relieved she survived this fall and will recover. I have some of her records.

I saw her in concert just this past summer, and her performance was superb. When I first heard of her accident a few days ago, my reaction was "what was a 70-year-old woman doing up a tree?" (She'll be 70 in January btw.) But I can understand why she was up there. I'm sorry she fell and hope that she recovers quickly. I wish you nothing but the best, Joan!
