Gil Scott-Heron Gets Remixed by Jamie xx -- Video

While 2010 marked the meteoric rise of indie darlings The xx, it also -- independently, of course -- marked the long-awaited return of master wordsmith Gil Scott-Heron (pictured), who released his first album in 13 years this past February. And while the two events may seem completely unrelated, their arcs are about to cross.

The xx's Jamie xx has used his band's recent success to help him launch a side-career as a producer. Case in point: his well-received remix of Florence and the Machine's 'You've Got the Love.' And now that The xx are taking a much-deserved breather, Jamie xx found time to remix 13 tracks from Scott-Heron's current release, 'I'm New Here.' The remixes will be released as 'We're New Here' on Feb. 22. Why, yes, it is an appropriate album title. Check out the first video, for the single 'New York is Killing Me,' below -- after all, the revolution may not be televised, but that doesn't mean Scott-Heron won't be.
