The Jayhawks to Perform Classic Albums Live, Record New One

Ten years after he quit the Jayhawks, in 2005 Mark Olson started writing and performing music with his old bandmate Gary Louris again. At first, the Jayhawks' two principal members reshaped themselves as a duo but, more recently, they began playing under the old band moniker. If it was in name alone at first, Louris and Olson have since committed to doing it right. Last year, they reenlisted the rest of the lineup from the band's classic 'Tomorrow the Green Grass' era for some light touring and, now, Rolling Stone reports that the band, proper, is currently recording a new album. Guess you could say they're back.

As a matter of fact, Jambase confirmed on Monday that the Jayhawks will tour in January, hitting five cities in celebration of the reissue of their first two albums, 'Hollywood Town Hall' and 'Tomorrow the Green Grass' -- widely considered their best. During two-night stands in New York and Chicago, the band will perform both albums in their entirety, respectively and on consecutive nights.

As for the new material, expect a return to the 'Tomorrow the Green Grass' sound. "This is a record for a true Jayhawks fan," Louris tells Rolling Stone. "It's not a mirror image but it has a lot of the same elements." Consider the Jayhawks -- the real Jayhawks, we mean -- formally resurrected. Finally.
