Oh No Oh My, 'Brains' -- Free MP3 Download

Hail From: Austin, Texas
Song: 'Brains'
Album: 'People Problems'
Sounds Like: Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Born Ruffians
In Their Words: 'Brains' is the first of three songs on 'People Problems' that deal with someone losing their grip on reality -- the others are 'Circles and Carousels' and 'Summerdays.' 'Brains' is probably the most personal track on the record, and the one that we enjoy most playing live. The song is about being caught up inside your own head, just constantly over-thinking things, second-guessing yourself, and grasping for a moment of clarity. The song starts out really simple, and as the subject's thoughts get more complicated and jumbled, so does the music. We keep adding layer upon layer, and when we finally get to the bridge (where there's a lyrical homage to "If I Only Had a Brain" from the Wizard of Oz) the subject turns outward for help, but is left grasping. As a result, all hell breaks loose, and in the end he loses himself to the chaos." -- Multi-Instrumentalist Daniel Hoxmeier
