The veteran beat off competition from the likes of Arcade Fire, Gorillaz and the Gaslight Anthem to win the award, reports the London Evening Standard.
The winner of the prize is chosen by a panel of industry heavyweights, from broadcasters to music executives and musicians, including chairman of the BPI Tony Wadsworth and members of bands Fleet Foxes and Wild Beasts.
Speaking about the winning album, Paul Weller gave credit to co-writer and producer Simon Dine, who seemingly had a large part to play in the album's finished form.
He said: "The album came from him, really. He had these very rough backing track ideas, which he sent me. Once I heard them, I got excited too. I could see a whole new sound emerging out of them."
Editor of Uncut magazine Allan Jones praised Weller and believed 'Wake Up The Nation' represented the 'Modfather' in the "form of his life.."
He said, "The eventual winner, after an epic discussion, was an album that united both long-term fans among the judges and others of us who had previously been more sceptical. ['Wake Up The Nation' was] the sound of a great artist in the form of his life, absolutely aflame with ideas."
