The frontman said he was struggling to finish some new songs written with his guitarist Mik Whitnall and would like Barat to step in.
He told Italian Vogue, "There's a couple of songs at the moment that have been stuck on the treadmill for a while that I need to get finished. I might even have to show them to Carl, because in the old days that's what we'd do. If I had a great idea I'd share it with Carl and inevitably something great would happen ... I just feel that when they're finished it will be a new chapter."
NME.com also reports that although the Libertines haven't played together since their Reading and Leeds Festivals shows in August, Barat recently said he thinks they will regroup again in the future.
He's been busy of late with his debut solo material, including single 'Run With the Boys' and self-titled debut solo album.
Barat also wrote a critically acclaimed autobiography 'Threepenny Memoir: The Lives of a Libertine,' in which he wrote of the band's acrimonious split and the folding of his follow-up band, Dirty Pretty Things.
However, he's now got some down time having finished his debut solo UK and Europe tour -- so is free to heed Doherty's call for help if he so wishes. Some might argue they may as well just get the Libs back together again.
