The Glasgow-based quartet's appearance at Butlins in Minehead was only revealed on the day, although rumours they would be playing had circulated online, the NME reports.
For singer Alex Kapranos and guitarist Nick McCarthy there was a chance to get a feel for the festival earlier in the day. The two joined Edwyn Collins during the Scots singer-songwriter's set for a rendition of 'Do it Again' while Kapranos stayed on stage to help out on 'A Girl Like You.'
Collins, complete with Teenage Fanclub as his backing band, was also joined by the Cribs' Ryan Jarman, who made his contribution on 'What is My Role.'
As for Franz Ferdinand's own show, the band played a 13-song set that included hits 'The Dark of the Matinee,' 'Michael.' 'Ulysses' and a cover of the Sonics' 'The Witch.'
