Beck to Produce New Thurston Moore Solo Album

Thurston Moore has teamed up with Beck for his upcoming solo album, Pitchfork Reports. The Sonic Youth frontman signed up his fellow '90s American indie hero to produce the new disc, which will be called 'Benediction.'

Moore revealed he had recorded the new tunes at Beck's home studio in Southern California, and that the 'Odelay' singer didn't confine himself to mixing desk duties. "Beck sings and plays a little bit on it," Moore explained. Other musicians involved in the project include violinist and previous Moore collaborator Samara Lubelski and harpist Mary Lattimore. According to the alt-rocker, they both play on record "quite extensively and very, very beautifully," with Beck having "really put them through the paces."

Other titbits from the 'Benediction' recording sessions include the fact that Moore, Lubelski and Lattimore stayed at Mike D's place while making the album. The Beastie Boys star lives nearby Beck's Malibu studio. There is no word yet on a release date for the album, which will follow up 2007's 'Trees Outside the Academy'. That disc was released on the Sonic Youth star's own Ecstatic Peace label. 'Benediction' -- which is going to be Moore's fourth solo effort -- will apparently be issued on Matador.
