The Britpop legends are said to be reuniting once more in January to work on new material with a view to releasing an LP at the end of 2011.
The London-based outfit released one-off single 'Fool's Day' in April -- their first since 2003 -- but until now, further new material had seemed unlikely.
Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rowntree haven't recorded together since their 1999 album '13.'
But a source told The Sun newspaper, "When they went into the studio earlier this year everyone was really pleased to discover that the old magic was still there.
"They would have liked to have done more, but Damon could not take part due to his commitments with Gorillaz. Now that he's finished touring with the band he has more time on his hands."
This summer, Albarn said that last year's shows had "healed a very deep wound for all four of us."
Guitarist Coxon quit the group in 2002, but they reunited to headline Glastonbury and Hyde Park last year.
