Magnolia Shorty Possible Victim of Double Homicide

UPDATE: The New Orleans Coroner's Office has officially confirmed that Renetta "Magnolia Shorty" and 25-year-old Jerome "Man Man" Hampton were the victims.

While details are still unfolding and nothing is confirmed at this time, it looks like the rumors are likely true that rapper and former Cash Money recording artist Magnolia Shorty, 28, was murdered in her New Orleans neighborhood on Monday. NOLA.com reports that DJ Wild Wayne of local radio station Q93.3 FM made the announcement about Shorty, whose real name was Renetta Lowe, on the air on Monday afternoon. The story first spread via Twitter reports, rumors and retweets.

"If y'all haven't heard, Magnolia Shorty was killed today," Wayne said over the airwaves. "I'm just astonished. I need to get my head together for a minute."

Authorities recovered the bodies of two people -- a man and a woman -- inside a car that had crashed into an apartment complex. Both bodies had multiple gunshot wounds -- the female was allegedly shot 26 times -- and were pronounced dead on arrival. Authorities are calling their murders a double homicide but have not yet released the victims' identities. Stay tuned for more information and confirmation as it becomes available.
