Buzz on a live album chronicling the shows in support of 2009's '21st Century Breakdown' started building in August when the group revealed on Twitter that they had been recording their shows since the start of their tour. That same month, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong announced that same news during a concert where the group performed a new song, 'Cigarettes and Valentines.'
It won't be the first time Green Day has prolonged the magic of its live shows with a concert album. In 2006, they dropped 'Bullet in a Bible,' a live LP recorded during the band's massive 2005 show at England's Milton Keynes Bowl. In advance of the live disc, Armstrong will reprise his role as St. Jimmy in the 'American Idiot' musical in a run of shows beginning New Year's Day.
