It was a relaxing way to pass the time, bassist Kevin Baird tells Spinner.
"To take your instruments and go to a park and sit and play, it's really nice," Baird says. "It's so much more enjoyable when you're not worried about how your guitar sounds or how it sounds through the venue speakers or whatever."
The video shoot, directed by Alexander Shahmiri for the 'In the Open' series, came as the Northern Ireland band toured the United States for the second time, after releasing debut LP 'Tourist History' in March. Although Two Door Cinema Club have become intimately familiar with touring the UK and Europe, the trio wasn't sure what to expect when it first came to America.
"There were so many familiar things, like language and culture, but then there were so many new things because we had never been there before," says Baird, who laughingly mentions trips to Wal-Mart, "rubbish light beer" and "massive, massive portions of food" among the distinctly American things the band discovered.
"We were talking about this the other day, how growing up as kids, your mom would never let you have a glass of pop. Then you go to America and get free refills, so it's like we spent the tour hopped up on sugar," Baird says, laughing.
The band found more to do here between shows than just guzzle down bottomless cups of Coke, though: there was also plenty of music to hear. In addition to being musicians, the members of Two Door Cinema Club count themselves as devoted fans of music, too.
"This year's been really strong for music," Baird says.
So what are some of the band's favorites from 2010?
"'High Violet' by the National is an incredible record. We've always been massive National fans," Baird says. "We really loved Four Tet's new album. They released an album called 'There Is Love in You' and it's just incredible."
