"We are overwhelmed with happiness and joy at this very special moment," John, 62, and Furnish, 42, said in a joint statement released to Us Magazine on Monday. "Zachary is healthy and doing really well, and we are proud and happy parents."
The news comes 15 months after John and Furnish -- who met 17 years ago and were married in a 2005 civil partnership ceremony in England -- tried to adopt a young Ukrainian boy. That country's government denied the couple's request to adopt an orphan named Lev.
In an interesting coincidence, the Rocket Man first sang of a holiday birth in his legendary early-'70s hit 'Levon.' In the tune, John crooned of the song's character, "he was born a pauper to a pawn on a Christmas Day".

December 29 2010 at 5:42 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIm a gay male and I wish Elton and David the best of luck..but why would ANY gay couple want to make like those breeders and have some little pain in the butt snot nosed kid who will ruin whatever independence they have is beyond my comprehension!!!
Better off getting some cute puppy then some dumb baby
This is so awesome! Congratulations to Elton and David. Zachary is one truly fortunate child!

When the boy is 10 and wants to play ball, his father (well, one of them) will be a frail old man. There is a real chance that the boy will lose his father when he is still in highschool, that could be a disaster! At least Elton's husband(?) is young enough to watch his boy grow up.

Mairia... life is full of energy and solace laced by a silver lining that no one can deny that all is possible, just be and such joy is only the seed that blossoms second by second....an awe no one can describe.'
December 29 2010 at 12:25 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyHope Elton and David were able to attend the birth of their son. I understand their joy. Our son is 16 years old now happy and well ajusted. He grew up with 2 mothers. Also without a dad as he died when he was still a baby. So the missing parent thing...man or woman doesn`t hold any water. He has a beautiful girlfriend and is very tolerant of others lifestyles, race and beliefs. Both his mommies are nurses and care for Developementally delayed people so he has interacted with people that are different from birth. He doesn`t have any hang ups with folks that are different. Love is the important factor in being a good parent.

December 29 2010 at 9:13 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyChildren need their mothers. Myriad studies back up this claim. There's a reason why men can't have babies. This child will have two men who adore him, no doubt - but is depriving him of a mother really in the best interest of the child?
December 29 2010 at 6:34 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyHi: Congratulations on the birth of a son. I guess the honeymoon is over now. Time to try out new parenting skills. It is not as hard as one would think. Being a parent is a rewarding experience.
Good luck to both of you.
