Lenny Kravitz Shares Heartfelt Tribute to Late Singer, Friend Teena Marie

Lenny Kravitz has released a stirring eulogy to Teena Marie, who died on Sunday of an apparent seizure.

"I've never really talked much about it in depth, but I would not be here," he said in a shaky, unrehearsed video recorded Monday on his iPhone in Paris shortly after he received the news. "She changed my life. Not only as an artist but as a person. She truly loved me for who I was."

The 46-year-old guitarist and singer said Marie was nearly single-handedly responsible for his success. She took him in from the streets when he was a teenage street musician and homeless, having left his parents when they grew ambivalent about his budding musical aspirations.

"I was just a musician on the street, I was living from pillar to post, she took me in, she gave me a bedroom ... she gave me instruments to play ... she nurtured me and helped me become who I am," he said.

"I will always love you and respect you," Kravitz concluded in the video. "Thank you for being my friend. Thank you, Father, for the life of Teena Marie."

Very Touching. This should indeed be her most important legacy - that she saved at least one person in this world. So, she was by no means "just another musician", but also a humanitarian.
