John Mellencamp and Wife of 18 Years End Marriage

John Mellencamp and his wife, Elaine Irwin Mellencamp, have ended their 18-year marriage, according to a statement released by the veteran entertainer's spokesperson.

The couple, together for 20 years and officially wed for 18, announced their separation late Thursday (Dec. 30), days before ringing in 2011.

"John and Elaine Mellencamp are proud of their 20 years together and are very happy with their accomplishments both as parents and as a family," the statement reads. "They will continue to raise their two children in Indiana but have decided to call it a day as a couple."

The 'No Better Than This' creator married Elaine on Sept. 5, 1992. The two met when the model was hired to pose for the cover of his 1991 album, 'Whenever We Wanted.' They share children Hud and Speck together.

No details surrounding the reason for the couple's split have been released.

John, May I call you that as our familys both farm in Seymor, Ind. My Great Grandad Jack Branaman work with your grandad and I just do not unstand how your wife can be estranged as she stuck by you thick and thin. Meg is not for you. She had a good man and cheated on him whats the she wont she do this to you.?I have been a fan since you did all colleges down our way, but I think this might chang my mind on you.
