According to Australian site Undercover, the show is set for Jan. 29 at the Highline Ballroom. Rundgren, keyboardist Moogy Klingman, drummer Kevin Elfman, keyboardist Ralph Schuckett and bassist John Siegler will perform. The musicians all performed on Utopia's 1974 debut album, 'Todd Rundgren's Utopia.' The show comes at a time when Klingman, 60, is battling cancer.
"I have found that the best medicine that I take to deal with illness is music," Klingman wrote on his site. "To play music and work with other musicians is the most healing thing that I can do."
On Jan. 16 at The Bitter End in New York, Klingman will be in the spotlight for a benefit gig in his honour featuring Randy Brecker, Peter, Paul & Mary's Peter Yarrow, Rebecca Martin and the Utopia Brothers featuring himself, Siegler and Ellman. Funds raised from the show will go towards Klingman's mounting medical bills.
Rundgren released several Utopia albums with a changing lineup from 1974 to 1985. The band's last studio album, 'P.O.V.,' was released in 1985.
