Broadcast's Trish Keenan Dies From Pneumonia

Trish KeenanGary Wolstenholme, Redferns

Broadcast frontwoman Trish Keenan has died after contracting pneumonia brought on from swine flu (H1N1). She was 42.

Her manager Martin Pike told Spinner she died on Friday morning, Jan. 14, having been on life support since Christmas.

He said, "She had been in Australia, and had stayed on to see relatives and she had come back home and fell ill when she was back in England."

In an earlier statement, the band's label Warp Records had confirmed she was ill.

Rumours of Keenan's critical state first started on the band's Facebook page, where Crystal Summers, who has claimed to be Keenan's sister, had been posting updates.

Broadcast formed in 1995 and released four studio albums, as well as two compilations. The band was recently chosen by 'Simpsons' creator Matt Groening to play the 2010 All Tomorrow's Parties festival in Minehead, and were also cited as an influence by Paul Weller for some of his recent, more experimental work.

Warp's statement read, "It is with great sadness we announce that Trish Keenan from Broadcast passed away at 9AM this morning in hospital. She died from complications with pneumonia after battling the illness for two weeks in intensive care.

"Our thoughts go out to James, Martin, her friends and her family and we request that the public respect their wishes for privacy at this time.

"This is an untimely tragic loss and we will miss Trish dearly -- a unique voice, an extraordinary talent and a beautiful human being. Rest in Peace."

Haven't the slightest idea who this person is. However, it is sad indeed to learn the news. Also, I find it amazing the way she died. Not often do we hear of someone passing from pneumonia. Yes, I know it was complications from H1N1, but, fact remains...both are quite treatable/curable. R.I.P. Sympathies to her family, friends, and fans.

The flu vaccine only covers certain viruses and the pneumonia vaccine is only for viral pneumonia. If she had both at one time, she was a very sick girl. Most people are not recommended for the pneumonia vaccine unless they are chronically ill or have had lung problems in the past. Give the girl a break - afterall she is no loger here to defend herself.

I am so profoundly sorry to hear of Trish's passing. The swine flu has hit England very hard of late, and many people have lost their lives to it. The fact of the matter is, this young lady is dead....your conspiracy theory, Michael, is beyond pathetic. Maybe you should spend less time on such ridiculousness, and more time trying to get out of your Mom&Dad's basement.

She did NOT die of swine flu induced pneumonia...swine flu was NOT the cause....notice how they want you to believe a lie and create fear and panic and dovetail this information with the previous so-called swine-flu epidemic 2 years back that was a big nothing.....they (who is THEY?) want to setup "us" (who is the us) up for quaranteen control when it fits their (who is the their?) devious plans. Do NOT be suckered! Don't be deceived. Absolute lies. Michael Smith (yes Martha, there IS a conspiracy and it's called the Love of Money - figure it out)

If you had any sort of scientific or medical background (which you obviously have neither) you would know that any form of flu can kill. It's a virus. It's not supposed to be inside of the body. The problem with people like you is that EVERYTHING is a conspiracy. If the government sends out a warning, then their trying to frighten us. If they say it's nothing serious to worry about, then they're hiding something. In the years of 1918-19 over 21.5 million people worldwide died from the flu. Are your that naive to think that it can't happen again?

People ARE still dying from swine and other flus; H1N1. Show me the research you've done. Unfortunately, many children have died because their parents thought the same about vaccines; whooping cough being the current childhood(adults can get it, too)illness with an increase in occurance I bet if you were alive and lived through the epidemics for which the vaccines were made, or had friends, families and large groups of people die from these things, it might mean more to you.

It's hard to believe that someome in a First World country, with the best medical care available, young, healthy, and somewhat famous, could die from pneumonia brought on by the flu, unless she ignored her symptoms. But I guess it happens. Sad nonetheless.

To hell with any flu shot. They are not needed and cause more problems than they correct. And this swine flu BS, is just that, BS. The everyday flu kills more people than swine flu ever even thought about. Thanks to our worthless governmetn for scaring you short sighted, non-thinking sheep.

The reason the H1N1 virus kills less than the regular flu does is because it's not as widespread. Doesn't mean it's less deadly. Pay no attention to the conspiracy theorists who ought to be sued for spreading this kind of nonsense. Get your vaccines!

Unfortunate at best, our well wishes and condolences to her family indeed, but this should also be viewed as a learning experience for world traveler's. This of the person standing beside you in the airport last week who was coughing into the wind. You took the bad part of that possible disease process home to your loved one's. Airport's will be a pivital instrument in the transmission of disease...now and always. Be careful out there...

Though I had never heard of Broadcast or Trish before
this unfortunate story,it's always tragic when someone
dies before their time. May her family and her friends
find comfort in their fond memories of her.

In further news, Tommy Crain, original guitarist/songwriter for The Charlie Daniels Band died in his sleep 1/13/2011. Tommy sang lead on "Blind Man" and was co-writer on "The Devil Went Down To Georgia", winning a grammy. Tommy Crain was a master of that Gibson! R.I.P.
