In Their Words: 'Used To Be A Cop' is based on a true story from my hometown. I used to work a job that had me in personal contact with a number of law enforcement officers, many of whom were fine folks, but a couple were scary as hell. This character study is a composite sketch of the two scariest, one of whom was prone to stalking his ex-wife and a couple of ex-girlfriends. I changed the names to protect myself from the psychotic s.o.b. Every time I go home, I end up running into someone that was in one of my songs and sometimes it gets a little creepy. -- Co-vocalist, guitarist Patterson Hood
