Son of Pink Floyd's David Gilmour Faces Criminal Charges

The son of Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour faces criminal charges which were filed on Thursday in response to his attention-grabbing role in last month's student protests against the British government. On Dec. 9, Charlie Gilmour, 21, joined his fellow students in voicing his anger over the government's call to raise university tuition fees.

In a high-profile image that was published throughout the world, Gilmour can be seen swinging from the Union Jack flag that's a part of London's famed and revered Cenotaph -- easily Britain's most sacred and iconic war memorial. Gilmour -- a history student at Cambridge -- further raised the ire of the British public when, after apologizing for what he admitted was a "terrible insult" to Britain's fallen soldiers, he claimed he didn't recognize that he was actually swinging on the world-famous memorial.

According to the Associated Press, Gilmour faces charges of violent disorder and theft of a mannequin leg, although police have decided to drop the charge of attempted criminal damage to the flag. Perhaps, at his father's unwitting suggestion, his defense will claim that the incident was nothing more than "a momentary lapse of reason."
