"David went into a nearly nine hour surgery Wednesday morning and has since been on a steady path of recovery. He's awake, standing when he can, and overall in great physical form given what he went through just 48 hours ago. While the path to recovery is a long one, you can see the warrior that is our brother Murph every step of the way."
It must've been one of the most intense weeks of his life -- just days before the surgery, Murphy was drinking tequila, relaxing oceanside and taking in other luxuries at a resort in Mexico where STS9 performed three shows in four days -- on a stage set right on the beach, no less -- as part of Mayan Holidaze. Murphy also spun a poolside DJ set during one of the days and partook in a band-fan poker tournament. Knowing that he faced such a serious procedure upon the festival's conclusion, Murphy was in high spirits and seemed to cherish every moment as it came.
"Mayan Holidaze was really special for Sector 9," he told Spinner, on the final night. "These were our last shows for awhile and there's also just something different down here -- it felt special."
We wish him all the best during his recovery period and look forward to seeing him at next year's Mayan Holidaze -- if not well before then.
