Before the final song, 'This Is a Call,' Dave Grohl told the audience "see you next week," leading Foo fans to speculate that more secret shows are imminent. After all, Friday's gig was the end of a unique online puzzle that began early last week when Grohl first teased loyalists by posting pictures on Twitter of the group in rehearsals. Subsequent posts included a picture of a Foo Fighters tour case adjacent to a sombrero and, earlier on Friday, photos of the frontman driving up the California coast.
The Foos -- now a five-piece with the return of former guitarist Pat Smear to the fold -- took the stage after an opening performance by hardcore band the Bronx, who were dressed as their alter egos Mariachi el Bronx. Grohl asked, "You guys wanna hear the new record?" and proceeded to play the yet-to-be-titled new album, which was produced by 'Nevermind' overseer Butch Vig in Grohl's garage.
