The 'This Is Happening' creators took to their website to announce the show, which will be nothing short of a marathon. "We are retiring from the game," they wrote. "gettin' out. movin' on. but for just one more night, we will be playing with friends and family for nearly 3 hours–playing stuff we've never played before and going out with a bang. and we'd like you to be there [sic]."
While the band wants fans from near and far to come and bid them farewell, LCD does have one request: for all those in attendance to wear white and black. They'll also give loyal supporters a treat in the form of openers Liquid Liquid.
Last July, LCD frontman James Murphy revealed some details behind why the group, which formed in 2002, decided to split. "It's all just gotten bigger than I planned or wanted. Not that I'm against it but I don't want to get bigger," he told Pitchfork. "What's the goal now--get f-----g huge? I don't want to be a famous person. It's f-----g great where we are. I get on an airplane and nobody has any idea who I am. I just want to do other stuff. And since we know we're not gonna do another record I feel freer to do the biggest shit I possibly can. Like, 'F--k it, we should play Madison Square Garden.'"
Spinner recently caught up with James Murphy to talk about the end of LCD SoundSystem. Check out the interview below.

Just because you are ignorant of their music doesn't mean they aren't great! You don't know what you've been missing and now you never will. Closed, narrow minds - open up and let somthing new in instead of making fun.
PS Apparently more than ten people and 1 aol writer know of and really like LCD Soundsystem as they are playing Madison Square Garden after finishing a world tour.
AOL has writers we have never heard of before writing about bands we have never heard of before. Arianna, you need to clean up this mess as you take over as whatever you are now going to do at AOL.

February 08 2011 at 1:38 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWow... the White Stripes and now LCD Soundsystem. The music world must be completely shattered today.

February 08 2011 at 1:05 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyMakes sense to me! I see why nobody would want fame, money, chicks, etc. After all being they are so great they sure don't want to spread it around. Being rock legends like KISS, Van Halen, KORN, Metallica, Led Zepplin, Aerosmith.......That would be awful! Most of these bands don't worry about airports either, they have their own freaking jets! Golly! Lucky for them they got out just before people heard of them!
February 08 2011 at 1:00 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI've heard of one hit wonders but a one concert wonder? That's a first, if they don't cancel. At least they say they will play stuff of theirs we've never heard before. I guess that means they can play anything!
February 08 2011 at 12:49 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWhy does AOL keep reporting about nobody bands breaking up? Who cares!!! I found some of their music online, they suck! Oh, and the White Stripes really suck. I still can't believe they had any success. It just goes to show that people are idiots that like bad music.
February 08 2011 at 12:46 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI saw them with Hot Chip (another band you probably don't know) at the Hollywood Bowl this summer and it was an awesome show! For the rest of those commenting that have never heard of them I can only say that this is exactly why they are calling it quits. They didn't want to become mainstream in any way. People who crave good innovative music know exactly where to find it. The rest of you should just sick to watching American Idol.
February 08 2011 at 12:42 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWhen nobody has heard of them it means they are crap, it certainly doesn't mean they are some great hidden talent only the greatest music conusors are allowed to hear.
