The videos have a low-key, intimate feel, but the experience of shooting them was not as carefree as it may seem. "We filmed at my house and my neighborhood is very noisy. We contended with sirens, thunder, a phone in the other room that never rings, but decided to ring at the end of every take," Hood tells Spinner. "I think my annoyance from the interruptions added to the intensity of the performance. I always sing better when I'm about to rip something off the wall."
Discussing the lyrics of the song, Hood explains that 'Thanksgiving Filter' is about "the filter that enables some distance" between family members. "Sometimes, in dealing with your loved ones, you need or at least long for a degree of separation that often family doesn't allow...when it's achieved you have to not allow it to cause a painful amount of distance."
