Billy Joel Claims He Doesn't Want to Punch Elton John in the Face

On Thursday morning's 'Today' show, John told Matt Lauer that Joel is royally peeved with the Rocket Man. "He sent me a message and he's not happy," John said. "He may want to punch my face. I understand that. I'm sorry I had to say it, but I'm saying it because I really want Billy to live a long life and be very happy. That's all it came from. I understand why he's mad at me. I'm only trying to help. Maybe I should have done it privately, but I've been so frustrated over the years."
As interesting as the prospect of John-Joel fisticuffs is, Joel once again tried to squash the matter via another statement from his publicist. As Rolling Stone reports, Joel's note reads:
"1. I do not hate Elton John
2. I do not want to "punch him in the face"
3. If he wants to call me, my number is still the same.
4. Good luck with the movie.
BILLY JOEL"
It's assumed that Joel is talking about 'Gnomeo and Juliet,' which John wrote the music for, when he says "good luck with the movie," though maybe he's talking about Sir Elton's forthcoming biopic? Either way, we'll just wait another 10 days or so before the next round of rumors, accusations and publicist responses.
