"There wasn't necessarily a person who inspired the song," band member Erin Elders, who also directed the video, tells Spinner. "The initial inspiration for the song came from an advertisement for home improvement supplies."
The clip was shot at the Abbey Pub in the band's hometown of Chicago and the Olympic Theatre in nearby Cicero.
"We had five cakes delivered to set for the slow-motion cake shot, each hand-decorated to say "Rick Reebok and the Analog Medallion" Elders says. "Mark, who played Rick Reebok, nailed the shot in the first take. To celebrate, our camera man ate the fallen cake off the floor."
Maps and Atlases are currently wrapping up a European tour and will appear at SXSW.
