Pixies to Record New Album?

Since getting back together in 2004, there's an argument to be made that Pixies have become their own tribute band. Indeed, having toured their 'Dooloittle' album since the end of 2009, the band are extending the run with a Canadian tour -- interspersed with three US dates -- in April and May.

But here's the thing: it would appear that the initial rumblings of new album have begun to appear. If this were to be the case, the world could be on the verge of receiving the first new Pixies album since 1991's 'Trompe Le Monde.'

Speaking to Billboard.com, drummer David Lovering confirmed that the band have at least discussed the idea. He said, "We've been talking about this for about three years now, actually. I don't know if it will come to fruition; I'm waiting and waiting to see what will happen. All I can say is if there is one, it better be good. We'd really have to work at it."

For guitarist Joey Santiago, the band has massive competition to face up to: themselves. He explained, "We're waiting for that, like, 'A-ha!' moment. I'm already there. It's just a matter of timing and everything aligning. I guess there's a little pressure from the legacy thing. Sure there is. But I don't think there's any preconceived thing that anyone could expect us to do. The possibilities are pretty wide open, I'd say."
