Choose the Rolling Stone Cover Star

Who will be the first act not signed to a major label to appear on a coveted Rolling Stone magazine cover? You decide! The editors of Rolling Stone, RollingStone.com, AOL Music and AtlanticRecords.com have selected the first 16 finalists of the first-ever "Do You Wanna Be A Rock & Roll Star?" contest from 1,200 musical acts. Get to know them below and grab some free mp3s while you're at it. The final two acts will go head-to-head at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in June, where one will be crowned the ultimate winner and will land both the Rolling Stone cover and a contract with Atlantic Records. Hurray for democracy!

UPDATE: As of March 16, the remaining contenders for the Second Round of 'Choose the Cover Contest' are the Romany Rye, Fictionist, Lelia Broussard, Empires, Tha Boogie, the Sheepdogs, Mod Sun and Skyler Stonestreet.
