Work on the follow-up to 2009's 'Lungs' started back in the autumn with the band writing new material, but now it appears it's only a matter of months before they start recording sessions for their second record.
Ackroyd explained, "Work on the second album has begun with producer Paul Epworth and there is talk of booking out Abbey Road for a month in April or May to record. Which is nice."
In the interview with Gibson.com, the guitarist, who has recently been working with Bob Geldof's daughter Pixie and her band Violet, went on to speak about the shared and differing tastes in music which lie at the heart of his relationship with singer Florence Welch.
He said, "Florence's and my taste in music often overlap in harmonious fashion -- we're both big fans of hip-hop and American indie. But she's also a big fan of unadulterated pop music, which cuts through me like a knife."
As for the band's confirmed plans, Ackroyd said, "We are performing with Elton John at his post-Oscar/AIDS benefit party and have a month-long North American tour in June along with a U2 support slot."
