Those who have been anxiously awaiting new music from the rockers will undoubtedly be elated by the new song, which awakens listeners with its commanding guitars and coddles them with its melodic chorus:
"Give me some rope I'm coming loose / I'm hanging on you / Give me some rope I'm coming loose / I'm pulling for you now / Give me some rope I'm coming out of my head into the clear when you go I come loose."
'Wasting Light,' the Foo Fighters' seventh studio album, was recorded entirely on analog tape in Dave Grohl's garage. Produced by Butch Vig, the record boasts guest appearances by Bob Mould and Krist Novoselic.
In January, Grohl gave NME a tour of his studio and said the "chaotic" record sounds like nothing Foo Fighters have done before. "I demoed them all on this super s----y drum set, it was like a f---ing Toys R Us drumset, but in this room it sounded like f---ing Led Zeppelin," he said of the new tracks.
On Feb. 14, the band sent a valentine to their fans in the form of a music video for their song 'White Limo,' which stars Motorhead's Lemmy Kilmister as their driver. The Foo Fighters also previewed songs from the album at their recent surprise shows in the Los Angeles area.
'Rope' will be available as a digital single on March 1, and as an instant download for those who pre-order 'Wasting Light' on iTunes. Check it out below and hear it again and again on AOL Radio's New Rock First station.
