Asked what was his most memorable experience whilst on tour Leeuwen told Faster Louder, "Do you wanna hear something f---ed up? Of course you do. There was one time when we performed an appendectomy, backstage in Munich. We forgot the anaesthesia. I do know how to perform these operations, but I'd had too much to drink that day. But she's okay."
When asked to elaborate the guitarist was less forthcoming, he said, "It's actually a legal matter ... It's a medical slash legal matter and I can't say much more than that."
Despite Leeuwen's claims, no member of Queens of the Stone Age are known to possess any medical qualifications, a fact that somewhat detracts from the credibility of the story.
Elsewhere in the interview, the guitarist spoke of the band's progress on their new album and plans for the rest of the year. He said, "We're at the early parts of the record, there's still some writing going on. We're a band that doesn't push things, things naturally happen, and they are.
He continued, "We're kinda sprinkling this year with some touring for the re-release of the debut and then doing some recording. It's going to be a creative time, and that's good, but we're still early on."
