Guns N' Roses Reunion Was a Mistake, Duff McKagan Says

"I almost wish the getting on stage part hadn't happened," the Velvet Revolver told Rock News Desk, saying that the live impromptu London jam between the Guns N' Roses co-founders was a mistake because it has refueled fans hopes for a regrouping of the group's classic lineup.
On a personal level, McKagan said he's happy he ran into Rose when they wound up having hotel suites next to each other. "We were meant to connect again," he said of the chance meeting. "It was a private matter, but I'm glad it happened."
As for rejoining Rose and his current incarnation of Guns N' Roses for a rendition of 'You Could Be Mine,' McKagan blames his iffy judgment on a mixture of jetlag and energy drinks and remembers little about his car ride to the O2 Arena last October.
"It was like, 'I should be in bed right now. I've got a meeting in the morning. What am I doing here?'" Duff explained. "Then all of a sudden there's a bass in my hands."
Since that surprise appearance, McKagan says he and other former members have been inundated with inquiries about a reteaming of all the founding members, but McKagan insists it would never happen.

Duff and Slash are still best friends. I mean there in the same band for crying out loud. So if Duff says there's no reunion it simply means no reunion. I'm sure Duff talked to both Slash and Axl. If Axl doesn't want to do something it's not happening. Plus there's some serious bad blood between Axl and Slash. Axl has had reunions with Izzy and Duff on a few occasions. Steven's got his own issues. Back to Slash and Axl they had some serious issues. Slash said some things that Axl prob didn't like. Axl different from everyone else in that he takes stuff differently. Sure Axl messed up too. He's dictatorship personality ruined the band from the core out. The media has taken Slash's side cause Slash has gotten to make himself look good over the last decade. While Axl hasn't done any interviews. Those two should reconcile with each other before they die forget reunion just go back to being friends. Its not gonna happen overnight but maybe a step at a time.

The album had cool songs, but looking back, Use Your Illusion was overhyped and overproduced. Much like Chinese Democracy. In fact, that album killed the band and exploded Axl's ego. They should have kept it real.

I am sure it was more like they were in awe of Eltons superior musicianship, and realized at that point how much they suck and called it quits shortly thereafter.

February 26 2011 at 1:11 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWithout Slash Guns and Roses are nothing Slash was the heart and soul of that band and most importantly Slash was the only one who had legitimate and world class talent Slash was the one who made Guns and Roses famous. And Folks thats the truth .

February 26 2011 at 12:23 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyGuns & Roses' first album, Appetite for Destruction, produced quite a few hit songs, including "Sweet Child of Mine", "Paradise City", and "Welcome to the Jungle."
Their 1990 hit song "Civil War" contained the ban's most politically-charged lyrics:
"...still the wars go on, and the genocide
"with no love of God, or human rights
"and all these dreams are swept aside
"by bloody hands of the hypnotized
"who carry the cross of homicide
"but history bears the scars of our civil war...
"In my first memory, they shot Kennedy
"I went numb, when I learned to see
"So I never fell for Vietnam
"Got the wall in DC to remind us all
"That you can't trust freedom when it's not in your hands
"When everybody's fightin' for the promised land
"Look at the blood we're spilling
"Look at the world we're killing
"The way we've always done before..."
"Look at the lies we've swallowed
"Look at the leaders we follow
"And I don't wanna hear no more!
"I don't need your civil war
"It feeds the rich, while it buries the poor
"You're power hungry, sellin' something in a
"human grocery store...
"I don't need your civil war."
I wish the band had pursued this direction further!
Never heard of him.
