Roger Daltrey: Foo Fighters Sit-In Was 'What Rock 'n' Roll Used to Be Like'

When frontman Roger Daltrey (pictured) of legendary British rock band the Who sang with the Foo Fighters at the Shockwaves NME Awards on Wednesday, he surprised even himself. The collaboration was unplanned and pulled off without rehearsal. Of course, it helps that the song was a Who classic ('Young Man Blues'), which the Foo Fighters have covered not infrequently in the past.

According to NME, Foo Fighter Dave Grohl approached Daltrey about the collaboration backstage, with the event already underway. "That's what rock 'n' roll used to be like," Daltrey told NME, afterwards. "People used to just get up and make it up on the spot. Which is what we were doing tonight..."

Earlier in the awards ceremony, Daltrey presented the award for Godlike Genius to Grohl. Guess it takes one to know one.
