Soundgarden Ready to Record First Album in 15 Years

Grunge is dead -- or is it? One of the genre's most celebrated bands Soundgarden are set to hit the studio to record a new album some 15 years after their last. And fans are in for a bit of a treat it seems, with drummer Matt Cameron claiming "people are really going to love" the new songs.

Speaking to Billboard.com, Cameron explained that the band, who reformed in 2010 for live shows -- including a headline date at Lollapalooza -- are ready to put music to tape after writing an album's worth of material.

He said: "[Soundgarden met in December 2010 to] see if we could actually get the old juices flowing again. Lo and behold, we were able to write a bunch of really cool songs, and I think we're at the stage now where we want to just put them onto tape, or ProTools, and take it from there."

Speaking of the new material's sound, he added, "There's a little bit of evolution going on with some of this new music, but we're not straying too far from the formula. It has all our signature elements -- and more. I think people are going to really love it."

Good news then for Soungarden fans, who have been waiting -- optimistically -- since 1996's 'Down on the Upside' for a new studio album from the reformed band.
