Replacements Documentary Features Hold Steady, Decemberists + More

The Replacements might be one of the most influential bands who seemingly haven't yet had that Pixies-like resurgence to popularity among younger rock fans. A new documentary, 'Color Me Obsessed,' might help get the Paul Westerberg-fronted group the widespread recognition it deserves.

Presented by What Were We Thinking Films and directed by Gorman Bechard, the movie examines the Mats' impact through the stories of their contemporaries and their most devoted fans instead of a more traditional rockumentary. A number of Minneapolis natives, including members of Husker Du and Hold Steady frontman Craig Finn, make appearances, as do the Decemberists's Colin Meloy, Titus Andronicus' Patrick Stickles, Superchunk's Mac McCaughan and Jesse Malin.

On top of rock critics like Robert Christgau, the film also features interviews with actors Dave Foley, Tom Arnold and George Wendt. 'Color Me Obsessed' – billed as "the potentially true story of the last best band" -- will debut at the Gasparilla International Film Festival in Tampa, Fla.
