The eclectic Brooklyn band, which will release their fifth album 'Nine Types of Light' on April 12, will cap a bill of six bands on Thursday, March 17 at Austin's famous Stubb's Bar-B-Q. The show will begin at 8:30PM CT with L.A. indie-pop act Foster the People, followed by UK indie-folk band Noah and the Whale, Alaska's experimental rock spectacle Portugal. the Man and 62-year-old soul newcomer Charles Bradley backed by soul-funk collective Menahan Street Band.
Pegged by some as the next MGMT, Foster the People began in 2009 as the solo project of singer/composer Mark Foster and are gearing up for the release of their first LP, 'Torches,' in May. "It's a lonely life being a solo artist," he told us recently. "I got to the point eventually where I was writing bigger and more grandiose-type songs, more orchestral and just a lot more going on, and really needed more people to make it work. It's been amazing to work with such talented guys."
British folk-pop rockers Noah and the Whale are working on their third album, 'Last Night on Earth,' and recently explained their odd band name to Spinner. "It's taken from 'The Squid and the Whale,' a Noah Baumbach film, so we just rearranged the title of the film with the director's name," singer Charlie Fink revealed, noting that they'd often make up ridiculous stories about the moniker's origin in interviews. "I guess it's just the kind of question you get asked a lot of. For our entertainment, we just created other stories. We can get really silly with the answers."
The trip to Austin will be a special one for Bradley, who released his first album, 'No Time for Dreaming,' in January. As Bradley told Spinner, making the record was a dream come true and helped him heal from the pain of his brother's murder. "It's been a long time coming," he said. "I wonder why sometimes I'm still alive. I must be here for God's purpose because of the things I've been through."
Doors for the showcase open at 8PM CT, so be there early. Check out the official concert poster below for all the information and catch TV on the Radio's performance on AOL Music's Sessions the day after the show!
