"After a long and active life and a short illness, my mother Marie passed away yesterday, surrounded by her family," Bragg tweeted Saturday. "Thank you for all the kind sentiments that have been expressed via twitter in the past few days."
In an earlier announcement to his official website, Bragg -- who is responsible for classic songs such as 'A New England' and 'Greetings to the New Brunette' -- stated he was pulling the eight East Coast dates, which were slated to start in Brownfield, Maine, to be with her.
"My mother was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and her health has deteriorated to such a critical extent in the past week that I am now unable to fulfill these dates," Bragg explained. "As her life slips away, I feel that my place is by her side."
There is no word yet on rescheduled dates or refunds.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Billy.

My prayers are certainly with this gentleman. My baby sister has been fighting the same kind of cancer for 3 yrs now. She is among the 4 percent who have survived this horrible disease so far! We thank God every day that she is still with us,having just celebrated her 55 bday! God bless all who are in this fight for life!

March 21 2011 at 7:25 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyMy thoughts are with you and your mother.
My wife was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer 012610 and she died 042010. She only had a short time to try to mount a fight, let alone try to accomplish anything on her "bucket list". I may not know what you are going through personally but I know what hell I have been through in the past year. She was 54 years old, too young to die so quickly.
All my best.
I'm sure he's never heard of you, either. Just because you haven't heard of a musician doesn't mean that musician is unknown or unpopular. Nowe go listen to your Mexicali Brass,Mitch Miller,101 Strings,Hollyridge Strings,Castaway Strings and your Design Records album collection. They're all the rage in Goodwill, Salvation Army stores and 1/2 Price bookstores.
