The album has a storied history among Bowie fanatics as the iconic songwriter revisits a series of obscure, early songs that have long been sought-out by collectors. Most tracks, which had been modernized with new arrangements for 'Toy,' date back to the era before Bowie was known as a unique songwriter and was making music more in line with '60s teen pop.
Five of the 14 tracks eventually appeared on releases after 'Toy' was permanently delayed. These include 'Afraid' and 'Uncle Floyd,' which were released on 2002's 'Heathens,' as well as 'Shadow Man,' 'Baby Loves That Way' and 'You've Got a Habit of Leaving,' which appeared as B-sides.
Considering Bowie is taking an indefinite hiatus from recording and performing, this could be fans' only chance to hear new material from the beloved artist for awhile. The leak of 'Toy' follows another previously unreleased Bowie gem, a 1975 BBC documentary called 'Cracked Gem,' that was unearthed earlier this month.

what the?
Unfortunately, the album is a disappointment. The songs plod along, the arrangements are lackluster. "Let Me Sleep Beside You" is probably the only standout track. Sad for us Bowie fans.
