The South American baritone's newest album, 'Berlin 13,' was written after moving to the German artistic haven. There, Aubele experienced a personal transformation and was heavily influenced by the city's electronic music scene.
"Moving to Berlin was a great experience for me, though not an easy one," he tells Spinner. "It forced me to face a lot of my demons. When everything that you take for granted disappears and you find yourself in a whole new scenario, you need to redefine all things in your life."
His video for 'Bohemian Rhapsody in Blue' takes dreaming to another level, as he plays a melodica in a park and talks to a hologram woman with discotheque eyes.
"It's based on a dream, which is the backbone of my creative universe," Aubele says. "I wrote the song together with Jesse Harris. We both like surrealistic poetry, which is entirely based on dreams and images from the subconscious."
The video, shot in London, applies to the same imagery from Aubele's song. "It's a free association of images in a dream, which is entirely in tune with the lyrics which are also based on a dream," he says. "It's a non-explicit free association erotic dream. Next time we'll make it explicit."
'Berlin 13' is available April 12 via ESL Music, and the singer will be touring North America in the Spring.
