The guitarist has been highly critical of Ray playing under the Kinks' moniker since the band split in 1996 -- in the past he's described the gigs as "karaoke Kinks shows" and like "a poor remake of 'Night of the Living Dead.'" Now Dave seems more open to the idea which, given he declined to perform at a memorial for the band's late bassist Pete Quaife last year, is a significant development.
But don't be fooled, there's still no love lost between the feuding brothers. For his part Dave believes the root of the pair's problems lie in his brother's inability to share.
Dave told the Independent, "I don't know when it happened but at some point Ray kind of lost the ability to share. Emotionally -- not just with money. Even though that [money] would help. A lot. I would imagine that he lost that ability fairly early on.
"Having said that Ray is a vain, egocentric, narcissistic a---hole, I won't have anybody call him that except me. Because I love him to death. He is my brother."
Despite the two recently meeting up, "nothing was resolved." Dave concluded, "I sometimes think that Ray was only happy for three-and-a-half years in his life. And those were the three-and-a-half years before I was born."
