As Deadline reports, the film will penned by 'The Rocker' screenwriter Ryan Jaffe and directed by Jake Scott, son of film legend Ridley Scott. His previous credits include the Kristen Stewart feature 'Welcome to the Rileys' and such music videos as R.E.M.'s 'Everybody Hurts,' U2's 'Staring at the Sun' and Smashing Pumpkins' 'Disarm.'
It's still unclear how much of the late singer-songwriter's life will be retold in the still-untitled movie. The producers, which include Buckley's mother Mary Guibert, reportedly have the rights to use many of his songs and have optioned David Browne's book 'Dream Brother: The Lives and Music of Jeff and Tim Buckley,' which recounts the elder Buckley's struggle with drugs and his son's tragic 1997 drowning.
So far, there have only been rumors as to who will star as Buckley. Stewart's 'Twilight' co-star Robert Pattinson has been connected to the project and has met with co-producer Michelle Sy to discuss the role. Other possible leads include James Franco, Jared Leto and James Marsden.
