Video: 'Numb'
Highlight: "The idea for 'Numb' grew out of the deep, omnipresent bass at all these festivals we played back-to-back in 2009," guitarist Steven Chen of the Airborne Toxic Event tells Spinner. "Walking around, we were instantly bombarded by nondescript thumping music and masses of people. There's a tendency to withdraw completely into your own head at these moments, and the song is about that feeling of detachment that washes over you even as you find yourself surrounded."
