Soundgarden Reformed After Misinterpreted Tweet

A post on Twitter early last year from frontman Chris Cornell about the relaunch of the Soundgarden fan club led to overeager fans mistakingly thinking the Seattle band was reforming -- and word soon went viral.
In an interview with Kerrang! (via The Guardian), guitarist Kim Thayil revealed that talk of the band's 'return' led to the group being offered shows -- and after thinking it would be "fun" to play a Seattle show, the rest, they say, is history.
He said, "We had neglected our legacy and our fans, so we were just starting the fan club up again."
But a less-than-clear tweet from Cornell -- which said, "The 12-year break is over & school is back in session" -- led to mistaken hopes that the band were reuniting. He added: "I spent a lot of time trying to explain to my friends that we weren't back together. My mother called and said, 'We've heard the news, why didn't you tell us?'"
"It generated a lot of interest and my phone was ringing off the hook with people offering us shows. We turned most of them down, but thought it would be fun to play that show in Seattle [in April 2010] and eventually Lollapalooza. It was only around then that there was talk about doing some new material."

Grunge was a new spin on the rehash of the hard rock bands of the late 60's to early seventies. Mother Love Bone, Alice N' Chains, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and STP etc...Hendrix came out of Seattle as well as Heart and Queensryche. All talented musicians in their time. One can always say their is a better artist out there but to whose opinion? Music is an expression that is why it is called an art. But along the way commercialism has influenced many to believe the Monkees were a band instead of a Hollywood creation that eventually performed. Nevertheless if the people are performing and people are willing to buy their tickets let the people have their day. Peace and Love dominates hate coming from the conservative reich. Tantrums coming from musical expression is a lash out at authority dictating to them how to live. "Leave me alone and let me be free." So whoever you like you like and whoever anyone else likes they like and so be it. LONG LIVE SOUNDGARDEN.

It is unfortunate that bands like Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains and Soundgarden got painted with the same brush as Nirvana simply because they came from the same city. Chris Cornell is one of the best rock/Metal singers in the last 25 years. As someone who never got to see them in the 90's I'm excited for the chance to catch them this time around!

Good players can learn any grunge tune ever written in about 5 minutes..............one could spend a lifetime aspiring to replicate the superbands. Plus the talent of the backing bands of those lip sync tools is very under-rated. The world is pretty much musically braindead when it comes to musical skill.

You keep listening to Lady Caca or whomever you like. But spot pretending Justin Beeber and Rap is offering anything new.

People don't think they were a fad from the 90's , they KNOW it . Why do you think those grunge bands don't exist anymore ? There is not a lot of interest in those bands now , and there probably never will be again . And what landscape did they change forever ? The Seattle sound lasted 3 years at best . Not one band has tried to emulate that sound or style since it died in the mid 90's . Mainly because nobody wants to hear it.
