!!!'s Nic Offer Talks Stage Climbing, Prince at Coachella 2011

"I've gotten pretty high," !!! frontman Nic Offer tells Spinner of climbing stages during his band's sets. "Sometimes I get up on the speakers and I have to jump and its kind of scary. I've scared myself, and I've definitely gotten too high and had to climb down like a chicken."

While Offer's dance moves and stage scaling are a trademark of the dance-punk collective's set, Offer spent most of his energy shaking his hips during their Friday afternoon (April 15) slot on the Outdoor Theater stage at Coachella 2011. "It wasn't well setup for climbing around," Offer assures. "Every time I get on a stage, I'm like, 'OK, what do we got to work with here,' and then I work with what I am given."

During their Coachella set, !!! covered the obscure Prince demo 'Extra Lovable,' one of two covers by the Purple One the band will release on a 12-inch vinyl they have in the works. "Prince is the only person I've stolen moves from," Offer admits. "He is like Elvis to me. Guys that I look up to, looked up to Elvis when they first saw him as a kid; it's like that for me."
