Slash Says Slipknot's Corey Taylor Doesn't Solve the 'Velvet Revolver Problem'

"We did work with Corey, but all we were doing was trying him out," says Slash. As the group has done with other potential recruits, they handed Taylor a batch of new music and asked him to write the lyrics. After taking the new material -- and new singer -- for a test drive, they decided to pass. "It didn't seem to fit to me," Slash confesses. "It didn't seem like the answer to the Velvet Revolver problem."
Perhaps the band is rightfully a little gun shy after their last frontman -- Stone Temple Pilots' perpetual bad boy Scott Weiland -- proved difficult to work with. Admittedly rushed and under pressure to hire a singer after forming in 2003, Weiland remains Velvet Revolver's only official singer to date, having recorded and toured the band's only two albums with them. The parties parted ways in 2008.
This time, Velvet Revolver won't be rushed into a decision -- Slash says it'll be awhile before they'll even be ready to make another album, anyway, as he's first got plans for another solo album, followed by a tour. Meanwhile, Velvet Revolver will continue their search for the perfect lead singer. Maybe somebody should suggest a guy named Axl Rose. Not sure if he's available, but... he might be a good fit.
