"Weird Al" Yankovic may have taken on the likes of Michael Jackson in the past, but it's been a while since the satirist has lampooned an artist as big as Lady Gaga.
Yankovic planned a comedic version of 'Born This Way,' titled 'Perform This Way,' which would poke fun at several of Gaga's signature styles, including her bubble dress. As reported by Exclaim, the pop star refused to allow Weird Al to include the song on his upcoming record, even after he sent lyrics to Gaga's camp.
"OK, I thought, she wants to know exactly what the lyrics are going to be before she signs off on the parody," Yankovic said on his website. "Some artists just are a bit more protective of their material and don't want to take any chances. Fair enough. Because it was such an earnest human rights anthem, I thought some people might consider a parody to be in poor taste."
But the lyrics weren't enough, and Yankovic was asked to record the song before getting approval. "This was mystifying to me. At this point she has the lyrics ... and hopefully she is familiar with her own song ... and the parody is basically her music ... with my lyrics. It really shouldn't be that hard to decide -- based on having the lyrics right in front of you -- whether or not you'd be 'okay' with a parody. But, alas, we'd been given an ultimatum. If she didn't hear it, she wouldn't approve it."
The song was subsequently denied for commercial release, but the funny man has since released the song on YouTube. Do you think Lady Gaga should have denied Weird Al's request?

Stars can sometimes be weird about how they deal with Weird Al. IIRC, Weird Al said Coolio objected to "Amish Paradise" only _after_ it had already been cleared and he'd cashed the check. But Michael Jackson liked "Eat It" and "Fat" enough to actually appear in a long form version of something I only saw once on a VH-1 special. I think most artists realize that Weird Al only parodies the good stuff -- having him do a cover is like the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval.

As a curtesy, Weird Al generally asks permission anyway. It's a class move, and Gaga did right by signing off on it.
Get your news right. Lady Gaga never disapproved of the parody. She didn't even know her manager said no until she saw the song on Youtube. Once she found out what was going on, she approved it right away.
