Poirier Looks for Patterns in Music and Painting -- Exclusive Video

Prolific DJ and producer from Montreal Ghislain Poirier, better known by his stage name Poirier, has worked with some of hip-hop's most influential artists. Using glitchy original instrumentation, Poirier sets up creative pallets for emcees to rap over. Spinner recently had the pleasure of sitting down with the rising Canadian star to talk about his methods of production, and his fascination with patterns.

"When I started to draw and paint, I didn't have like, let's say, a direct influence. But after, it [was] soon clear to me that I was really into patterns, and patterns refer to primitive art," Poirier tells Spinner. "So either it can be like North American, South American, aboriginal from Australia. It all [has] the same idea of patterns and repetition. And basically this is what I do also in music: patterns and repetition."
