Jimi Hendrix's Family Raising $2 Million for Seattle Park Memorial

A park adjacent to the Northwest African American Museum in Seattle's central district is set to be re-named the Jimi Hendrix Park, and will be renovated in his honor.

A brochure from the foundation website describes potential features which include a live music platform and walkways inscribed with his lyrics. The project moved forward this week when the Jimi Hendrix Park Foundation selected Murase Associates as the design team from a batch of 11 applicants, according to Central District News.

The project still needs to raise the remainder of the estimated $2m (£1.2m) cost of building the park. A recent donation of $20,000 (£12,132) from Janie Hendrix -- Jimi's step-sister, and co-manager of his estate -- brings the current funding total to $640,640 (£390,383), still 67% short of their total. The foundation aim to raise the full amount in time for what would have been Jimi's 70th birthday in 2012.

Janie Hendrix's generous personal donation comes seven years after a lengthy case over the Hendrix estate, valued in 2004 at $80m (£48.7m), according to to Seattle PI. An attorney representing Jimi's brother Leon described Janie and her cousin Robert as "greedy and inept controllers of an estate they had little right to," perhaps because she only met the guitarist twice before his death in 1970. The judge later gave financial control of the estate to an independent trustee.

Fans of the guitarist are encouraged to give donations at the park website.

FANS are urged to donate? If I'd donate my money anywhere it would be to finish Jimi's memorial gravesite..what's STEP SISTER'S excuse for why it remains in the shape it is today? Jimi's father died in the middle of this project, and said there was supposed to be a statue made in Jimi's likeness...where is it? The only thing that bitch is interested in is, lining her own pockets..she can donate 20,000 like it came out of her pocket..yeah okay! Beneficiaries from Al's will are still waiting to be paid, but she claims there's not enough left over after the bills are paid to take care of them, yet admits there was profit. Where did the profit go? Right in her and cousin's pockets...I don't care what judge rules what, or what Leon and his family's relationship was like when Al died..BLOOD relatives get taken care of bottem line..how do you explain Al giving Jimi's son Daniel money, yet his daughter Tamika goes without? One doesn't have to look very hard online to see she and her pap visited quite often, and appear to have a good relationship...You're a bottem feeder just like Priscilla Presley...she's no more a Presley now... than you are a Hendrix..but you both hang on the name because it brings you what you desire more than anything....CASH...you were 7 years old when JMH died..saw him a handful of times..and you're out there giving interviews saying you promised to take care of him...WTF? You must really think we're all stupid...but ya know what that's ok..cause I'd like to introduce you to my sister...KARMA...and she surely is a bitch!!
