To do their part, New York indie-folk group Freelance Whales lent their song '1st Floor Generator' to the creators of the video, which has 1.2 million views and counting. And as frontman Judah Dadone tells Spinner, this was more than just a good deed -- it was personal.
"We felt compelled to contribute music to this video, because it seems that melanoma is a cancer that a lot of young people aren't totally aware of," he says. "Personally, my mother's side of the family has had issues with less serious forms of skin cancer, here and there, so it's something that's been in my mental periphery for a while now. Melanoma happens to be one of the most dangerous forms of skin cancer, though, and the fact that it's relatively common among young people means that we should all be reminding one another -- and ourselves -- to treat ourselves to a healthier future."
